Ms. Kathryn Anne Gilmour Mellor

MCCORMICK, SC — Kathryn Anne Gilmour Mellor passed away peacefully at home on February 13th, 2021.  She was 70 years old.

Kathy was born to Ernest William Andrews and Kathleen Gilmour Elwood in Stretford, England.  She grew up surrounded by English countryside and spent much of her childhood building straw bale houses, roller skating and teaching herself how to ride horses.  After getting married to Michael Mellor and having her children, Kathy and her family moved to Montreal, Canada and spent four years enjoying the local Masters swim club and working with autistic children.  She then moved to New Jersey, got her Associates degree and spent 20 years working as a Nuclear Medicine Technician at Cape May Regional Hospital.  Kathy was a very active person and took up running and triathlon in her sixties and made many friends in the local community where she was often referred to as just ‘Mum.’  She also enjoyed reading, puzzles and the game show Jeopardy was a must watch every night.

When Kathy retired she and her partner Richard, moved to McCormick, SC and resided there for five years with their beloved dog, Stella.  They enjoyed days of fishing and kayaking on the local lake.

Kathy developed a love for photography and spent much of her retirement photographing everything from her grandchildren to animals and nature.  Her photographs displayed an artistic eye and were even featured in her own exhibit in 2020.  Genealogy was also a passion and she was our family’s local historian and keeper of records.

Kathy will be missed greatly by her partner Richard Bradway and his children, son Andrew Aitken of Lancaster, England, son Paul Mellor and wife Tracey Mellor (nee Gilbert) of Easton, PA, daughter Emmeline Renshaw of Williamstown, NJ, sister Janet Andrews of Calabria, Italy, sister Margaret Taylor and husband Alan Taylor of Sutton Bonington, England.  She was a loving Nanna to Oliver, Christopher, Morgan, Leah and Matthew.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that live all over the world

A memorial service will be planned for the summer. Strom Funeral Home is assisting the family.
